We spend our lives transitioning and arriving. If we’re ready to move on —whether it’s leaving a city, a job, a relationship— we plan the heck out of our departure.

One Way is the story about the sacrifices made by those who leave their hometown to live like expats in the search of something better. Of how often expats become detached from their home places but can’t still fit in the new place.

Once Cesar decides to enter the house, the actions elapses in a 10 minute continuous oner shot with actors going through it all in one time. There is, however, one “hidden” cut. The whole idea was to express how a decision can take you through a whirlwind of unedited emotions, with no “fixing in post”.

7 people at a dinner reunion, a steadicam operator and a crew of 20 will dance to a 15 minute oner (one shot) carefully rehearsed to perfection. Lighting and set dressing will change live during the take and every single detail will be finely tuned to get ONE WAY, and one only, made. The one way you chose when you decide to move abroad.

FUNDING:

One Way was funded with $25,000 coming from lent equipment, bank loan, family and friends. Indiegogo made possible a crowdfunding campaign for production and a different one for distribution. Unfortunately, none of them achieved their goal, but it was a very well received aid in paying for all the expenses that a shortfilm like this entails. We learnt that crowdfunding is not an easy task and requires 100% attention… and a lot of friends.
